Dear Lord Provost Cllr Robert Aldridge & Council Leader Cllr Cammy Day,
Please accept my letter of support for the proposed twinning of Edinburgh with Gaza City .
Linking Edinburgh with Gaza will help support and establish connections between the two cities, helping to positively contribute to the quality of children’s lives in Gaza. Since April, Peter Gregson has been helping the Take My Hand charity and our children- in fact , his help has made a big change in their lives for better future. The Edina Gaza Twinning Association (EGTA) has many volunteers who work with our children every Sunday on Zoom to improve their English. For our children, this is the only contact they will have with the world beyond Gaza; they really appreciate it, for they believe the world has forgotten us.
On the 14th August we had a day out to celebrate the twinning work after the recent war, to help our children get over their sadness and fear after the bombings.
This type of support is significant for the welfare and wellbeing of Gaza’s children. Peter and EGTA raised over £500 in three days to pay for this- to pay for clowns, for food, for clothes. Some of our Take My Hand children lost their friends in the bombing- the Israelis killed 14 children.
You can see some of the pictures from the dayout, because the pictures say everything, at our new website- hosted for us by EGTA, at www.takemyhand.club
With the ongoing closure of Gaza’s borders, connection to the outside world is crucial for the mental and physical health, education, future economic opportunities, quality of life, and overall success of every individual. Gaza’s children would benefit greatly from twinning the cities. It is our great responsibility to help improve their lives.
I hope you support this twinning to give Gaza Children’s better life for better future.
Yours sincerely
